Hello everyone, I made it here with a little difficulty but I am here at last thanks to Ken. I live in the UK but have stayed in Turkey for periods of time over the last six years. This has allowed me travel. I am looking forward to joining in on some of the interesting topics you have on here and putting in my two lira worth !!

Hi Aston, welcome to Turkey Central. Is your user name referring to the well known football team from that area of Birmingham? Or am I barking up the wrong tree.

I'm from up the road a bit in Sutton Coldfield. Not a footie fan either but had a regular drop near the Villa when I worked for 021 Couriers.

Aston oh Aston, what an evocative place. The HP sauce factory (did they really demolish it?), the university, Aston Manor school, Musical Youth, the Villa.

Unfortunately Fil, the factory was demolished in the summer of 2007. The tower of the factory was a famous landmark and one of the giant HP logos from the top of the tower is now in the collection at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery,Posted Image

Oh and don;t forget Aston Hall and grounds !

Hi Aston, Welcome to the forum. I remember many years ago working in an Army barracks in Sutton Coldfield vetting potential Army recruits to see if they had what it takes. This was a long time ago though and I i think the roads were still cobbled back then lolPosted Image

That was right across the road from my mother's house, before the army the RAF had it as a Barrage Balloon unit, most of it has a housing estate on it now.

Thats really interesting. I have had a look at some of the places I was stationed and most seemed to have suffered the same fate.
