Question for Abi We are flying into Samsun can you advise is there a bus from the airport to the autogare? We want to go on to Amasya from Samsun any advice would be appreciated.

No, unfortunately they built a new autogar a couple of years ago and it's new location is on the outer fringes of the city rather than in the centre where it used to be. It's about 20km from the airport to the city centre and you can catch the Havas bus just outside in front of the existing doors from the arrivals. Once you are in the city you can get a taxi to the autogar which is about 4km away. Or I guess you could catch the shuttle bus from the bus companies ticket office located in the city. if you are thinking of getting a taxi from the airport to the autogar I would check the price first as they can be rather expensive.

In my opinion a woman wearing a Burkini looks like an entrant in a Miss Wet T Shirt competition. With the difference that a burkini is a much tighter fit Posted Image
The Koran and Hadith have plenty to say on the matter of clothing.Posted Image Yet on the other hand Ataturk gave many rights to women and I can see how people would feel burkini wearing women had betrayed his memory.
Muslim women are not supposed to bathe in the presence of men. No matter what. Posted Image
In Europe and the USA public swimming pools forbid fully-dressed swimming, for health and safety reasons. For example, divers are not allowed to wear a wet suit practising scuba diving in a public swimming pool. In France and Holland several Muslim women wearing burkini's have been kicked out of public pools for health and safety reasons. Parisian officials deemed the full-body swimsuit unhygienic. !

I really dislike people walking around half naked especially men with their beer bellys showing, gross !!

Have I gone off topic ? when I began to write it was about Burkinis now its about bus stations Posted Image

No,you didn't, we just had a slight detour as happens sometimes. I expect Aine saw that I mentioned Samsun earlier in the thread and asked a question, No harm done really

The area this happened was Yalova, which is pretty westernised, seaside city but not a European tourist resort.... More a Turkish resort. The younger generation dress modern and not many of them wear scarves and I would guess that about 50% of the older generation do.

In that case it was probably someone who thought that you, as a foreigner, were an easy target. :)

Well survived Amsaya during the winter but only just. İ was plied with food albeit often the same dishes İ was either frozen or baked and found the constant wood smoke a problem. Wearing so many clothes İ was walking about like penquin woman. However they now have an Ozsut wonderful place you can get cafe latte and great cakes. Came home with a virus which dıd not help my temper. Husband very happy a different relative each day lots of gossip but as the yabanci you are often excluded partly due to the fact you dont know the small details of the family history and feudes and often language problems and your partner normally get so involved they just forget you. Called into the Tourist İnformation very surprised that anyone visited them but as its on the outskirts and not signposted therefore not a surprise. They were very pleased and pressed leaflets a book and cd on me. As İ was drinking my cay İ looked up to see at least 10 staff members peering down from thr mezanine. Well worth a visit but as İ stated only in Summer. Will look at my cd and if İ can find someone to help load it here.

Please why do we have to put up with permanent water running in loos and bathrooms? They also think İ am odd
wanting to showe each day and of course decided thats why İ became ill. Next time İ visit will be in summer and stay at a hotel. Also although they get visitors in the season felt they dont actually venture far from the 4 star hotel based outside the town unless in organised parties with the tour guide so lots of staring from the women, and shy glances from the men.

Very glad to hear that you survived Aine although I expect you are a few kilos heavier after all that food. :)
Did you manage to do any sightseeing in between all the relatives ?

Yes it does and is very photogenic. İ find it difficult as turks seem to think visiting a place is all about going from one house to another over eating and gossiping but we did manage to see some sights. This was my second visit but husbands first.

Was there something about going out with wet hair on this thread?

Hmm, so it's still inconclusive.

Aine, yes, a lot of Turkish people only seem to visit places where they have friends or relatives and are not so interested in all the hisory etc. they have around them. It's only relatively recently that they have been taking a serious interest in preserving their heritage.

Thanks for that Fil it was an interesting read. I was surprised to read this

"Researchers found that cooling people’s feet did seem to activate cystitis in some women,' I think I will put that on the slipper thread. :)
