Hello All,
Im not much of an oline chatter but I find these venues to be very resourcefull while living abroad. Im looking forward to been a part of this community. If any one can tell me where is the best place to find "exotic" fruits and vegetables I wold appreciate it.
Thanks,
Florisnqui

Hi Florisnqui and welcome to our forum. We do have members who live in Istanbul and maybe able to help you on your quest. When you say 'exotic' fruit and veg what specifically did you have in mind? Like Swabs I would be interested to know how long you have lived in Istanbul and what brought you to Turkey.

Have you tried a delicatessen in one of the big posh malls? Or perhaps the shops behind çiçek pasajı off istiklal caddesi?

Well being from Birmingham, UK.. tropical fruit to me is a red apple.
We had a big show opened by UB40 when the kiwi came.

I searched the net for you and found Istinye Uzmanlar Manavı in İstinye. It says they have more than 25 kind.
I think you should call to be sure just in case.

We have a great fruit and veg shop down here in Kaş, persimmons and star fruit are favourite at the moment. You should be able to find most things in the markets.

Eat as much pommegranite as you can! So cheap, compared to the States and so good for you!

Pommegranites are not my favourite fruit, too many pips but we do get really gorgeous fruit here.

I agree, Sunny, we do get lovely fruit and all in the right season. You have to wait for cherries to be ripe or summer to come to its end for the pears to arrive. None of that strawberries at Christmas lark. Well, we still do see these unwelcome guests in the fruit and veg store but the good news is that if you peer too closely, some kind teyze will grab your arm and haul you back telling you dark stories of "hormones" and "they come from Mersin, you know. We don't know what goes on down there". So eating fresh seasonal locally-produced fruit and veg is no effort and it is one of the (many) things I love about Turkey. Long may it last!
