I noticed on the British Embassy website today that the price of the Residents Permit Blue Book has now gone up from 149TL to 172TL although thankfully the price of the Residents Permit remains the same as last year.

If you read some of the other posts in this forum you'll find out. If you are married to a Turkish man just get him to ring your nearest Yabanciı Emniyet Mudurluğu and ask, make sure he writes down the answers and asks if there is anything else because very often they will leave something out. One of the good things about being married to a Turk is that you don't need the money in the bank, they assume your husband is taking care of you.

If you include document translation/notarization, getting the car towed even though there was nothing to indicate a no parking zone, fuel expenses, buying lunch at the Aksaray polis station because my 10am appointment time didn't happen until after 2pm, and the cost of the mavi kart itself, i spent almost 2 grand for my mavi kart... a month later they cut the price to under 150. boy did i time that badly!

Ouch, I feel your pain. If it makes you feel any better, and I'm such it won't, I know a couple of people, one who renewed a couple of weeks before the price went down and one who renewed just one day before, in both cases it was for 5 years. They were British and the price went down from 380 GBP per year to 80 USD. so you can imagine how they must have felt.
I, for once. was lucky when I renewed last year as my passport still had 5 years to the day to run so I got 5 years, which cost less then 1 year at the old price plus the exchange rate that day was also in my favour. I also didn't have to pay for a new blue book as I still had room in my existing one for extensions to be added.

I just did the extension this year for the low low rate of 80usd, but could only get a year because my passport dies next summer. Hopefully I'll only have to renew for another year because my citizenship should come through before the next one expires (from what I've heard it takes about 18mos)

Aine the price of renewing your RP is 80 USD for 1 year which will be converted at what ever the USD/TL x rate is on the day. I always found renewing is the same procedure as when you apply for your first one, only less photo's in my case and also you won't have to buy a new blue book. But of course as we know different areas do different things, so an update from you would be good,
