How much do you think your birth certificate is worth? $5? $10? $15? No dollars at all?
Well, I’m British, so I suppose the value of my birth certificate is what it would cost me to replace it, which is currently 9 pounds and 25 pence. That, though, is not what the British authorities seem to think it’s worth. They apparently think it’s worth 100 pounds, a misconception which, as you will soon discover, turned out to cost me a small fortune.
Recently I needed to submit my birth certificate to a process called legalization, itself a bit of an oddity given that one might have thought there was nothing more legal than a birth certificate in the first place.

Wow, I have just read the article! If i was him i would now contact the UK again asking why they valued it at £100, seems more than likely to me that they stamped it wrong and was meant to be £10!

Its awful when something like that happens! x

I read that article and was intrigued to know in which circumstances you would need your birth certificate to be legalized?

Oh My God! There is no way £100 is correct surely. I would love to know the outcome of this, like Swabs I was thinking it has to be £10 but a mistake was made.

Also like Vic801 said when would you need a birth cert legalised? xxx

You need the birth certificate legalising for an application for a turkish kimlik as it states on the birth certificate that its not a legal document, so they wont accept it as from March 2012, so now you have to get it apostilled / legalised!! It costs £30 and takes about a week.

I am currently trying to find out if this needs to be done when applying for a kimlik in the UK, or just in turkey. x
