Minister of Environment and Urban Planning Erdoğan Bayraktar said at the parliamentary Planning and Budget Commission on Friday that the urban transformation project -- a recently announced project to reinforce structures against earthquakes -- will be launched in İstanbul.

Speaking before the commission during debates over his ministry's budget for 2012, Bayraktar responded to deputies' questions over a planned nationwide urban transformation project. He said that the project will be started first in İstanbul because it is one of the provinces most vulnerable to earthquakes and it has the largest population.

Bayraktar went on to say that the first districts the ministry will begin to work in are Avcılar, Bakırköy, Bahçelievler and Büyükçekmece, to be later expanded to other districts.......................

So what about VAn then? They say İstanbul is the most vunerable place to be affected by an earthquake but look at the state of Van. I wish the Government would see that there is more to Turkey than just the main cities. Yes it would be a great idea to transform all of Turkey and provent so many people losing their homes and lives but the people in Van have had everything taken away from them and are still not given the correct amount of help they need x
