I heard from my sister in law that her water has been cut for two days. I think they are doing different areas in turns, with two days off and two days on.
I'm not sure if this saves water as people tend to fill up every container in sight to provide for the two days off.
Hope there is some rain soon to fill up the reservoirs.

Yes, we heard it too. They've divided Ankara into 2 areas, taking turns to have their water cut for 2 days. And there's talk of increasing this to 4 days, but I think the authorities may give in to strong opposition. We've been expecting similar measures in our area, surely it's just a matter of time (unless rain saves us!). We are truly up the creek without a paddle!

The authorities are advising people not to store water for drinking in old oil drums as the water can easily become contaminated and lead to illness.
I think people all over Turkey should try to conserve water then perhaps the need for cuts will will be eliminated.

Try to conserve water! Talk to the feather in my hat! It hasn't rained for months, dams and rivers have dried up, whether the little water left will last the country until the end of the year is still a big question mark, and I still see people washing their cars and their balconies with their water on full stream, watering their driveways and letting their kids play with running hoses. I often wonder if the seriousness of the matter will ever get through to them - and if the government will do anything to make this happen.

Just the other day the papers reported religious leaders in Istanbul were preparing to conduct "rain prayers". Government officials were also quoted as saying they had done everything in their power to save water and had now left the rest to God!

What do you make of that!

FC nobody will take any notice until they turn on the tap and no water comes out. There is no short term solution, it will need plans that will take years to implement. Look at the problems they have in the UK if they have a half decent summer and they have a lot more rain.
I've always believed in the philosophy of God helps those who help themselves. Errrr, how much are de-salination kits?

I agree with you sunny. Maybe it will help, then, if the water cuts continue for a short while. Perhaps the price of water could also be raised accordingly. I was astonished to read in the paper today that Melih Gokcek, the Belediye Baskan, denied that the council had responsibility for the matter and said he could not make sense of the public outcry regarding the cuts.

The water situation is getting quite desperate now in the centre of Turkey, their climate this year has been exceptional they even didnt get snow like they should have which helps the land and so from the outstart of the year they were short.
The ground where my husband lives is parched and the wind is blowing it away as its dust now.
They pray for rain but it goes to samsun where its not needed quite as much as Anatolia.
