.......For the first time in English we can now read the travel writings of Turkey’s most famous traveler, Evliya Çelebi. Living in the 17th century, Çelebi (an attribution meaning gentleman or scholar) traveled extensively around the Ottoman world, which stretched into Europe and down into the Middle East and North Africa. As famous in Turkey as Marco Polo is in Europe, Çelebi was a meticulous recorder of detail, and his famous “Book of Travels” contains 10 volumes of his writings.......

Picked up this book from the post office a couple of days ago. I haven't had time to read much of it yet, only the introduction and a bit of the first chapter but I can tell you that it's going to be a tough book. It's fascinating in the detail but so far a little bit overwhelming. Definitely a book for long winter nights in front of the soba with a glass of wine, complete silence and a taste for travel come spring.

I'll keep you posted.

:harika:

P.S. Yes Lu of course you can borrow it when I finish it, don't hold your breath though. ^_^
