Hello All,
I was recently hired on as a civilian Contractor at Incirlik - not with VBR. I'm currently still at Aviano, and I'm supposed to arrive later this summer. I'm my company's first-ever (and probably only employee at Incirlik, so finding out exactly how to bring me, my family, and our belongings there has been nerve-racking to say the least. Pass & Registration and TMO have some great info on "how to" get your household goods delivered and your vehicle registered once they arrive, which leads me to my question (that I haven't gotten a straight answer to yet). As a DoD Contractor, can I ship my POV to Incirlik? I was already told today that my vehicle can't be shipped anywhere overseas at US Gov't expense. I'll have my DoD Contractor Letter of Authorzation - basically "Orders" for civilians - assigning me to Incirlik, and authorizing use of base facilities, etc.... If a vehicle shipment is possible, what other documentation would I need to take possession? Thanks to all for any light you could possibly shed.
Can Us Contractors Ship A Vehicle?

Hi Kingtee,
I was in this exact situation several years ago, the only one from my company at Incirlik. It would depend on what your contract says, actually, what you can and can't do.
That would have to be written into the contract. In my case I rented a car from NASA car rentals just off base, and the contract paid for it, since it was necessary to do my job. If the contract doesn't allow you to ship your POV, there are several companies you can rent from in the "alley" just off base. I coordinated with my company to do that.
I would think that if you are allowed to ship a vehicle, it would be done under the military system, since it would save both the military and your company money to do it that way.
All the documentation you need would be filled out when you drop off the vehicle for transportation to Incirlik. When your car gets there, you'll be notified. You then go to the pickup point, show your papers and probably fill in a few more, then drive away.
You'll have to register it in Adana. There are transportation "brokers" on base who can do that for you, I HIGHLY recommend using them, it's incredibly complicated to get a car registered, as well as time-consuming, these guys go straight to the front of the line and have tea while the registration is being issued. It would take you ten times as long. You can find one of these brokers through the transportation office. They do work for a fee, you'll need to coordinate with your company on that.
