Just when you thought it was safe . . . I’m back! After the longest period away from Turkey since we moved here just over 14 years ago, it’s good to be home.
Ms dande and I have been on a 6-month trip visiting friends and family in Connecticut and North Carolina , USA, and in the UK where, just before Easter we had a week’s get-together of our extended family in Derbyshire.
As we didn’t receive an invitation the wedding, (but then neither did Tony Blair or Gordon Brown) we returned back to Çeṣme last Wednesday – to notice so many changes on a brief tour of the town this morning:
• İbo has opened his own place
• A new, larger Ṣok supermarket has opened
• The Total Petrol Station is closed for refurbishment
• İNG Bank has placed a new ATM machine near the Marina. which is much more convenient (for us!) to use, and avoids having to park near the town square
• A new illuminated feature has been installed shining a glorious red at the roundabout opposite Carrefour
All this and I am sure much, much more since we left.
Oh, and did I mention? . . our house is in a semi rural location a few miles out of Çeṣme and until mid-2010 we only has access via an unmade road – deep mud in winter; like concrete in the summer. Then last summer, the Belediye arrived in force and gave us a good strong stone & tarmac surface. How happy we were.
When we arrived home on Wednesday, we were living alongside what can only be described as a cross between a ploughed field and a building site. The roads gone; earth is piled up high; roads in the village are closed. S**t you may say, and you’d be right. A sewerage system is being laid operational apparently in about one year’s time when we may well have our road back and access to other parts of the village.
Stop Press: Our road should be resurfaced by the end of next month. Don’t hold your breath!
Hey ho. Still glad to be back!
I'm Back!

I'm not sure putting yourselves in the same sentence as those politicians is a good idea Dande.
