Interesting, i would think that itv and channel 4 may follow suit, its a logical step and no need for proxies.

http://www.dailymail...icence-fee.html

The BBC's iPlayer service is to be launched globally this year and it will cost people outside Britain HALF the price of the UK licence fee.

The international version of the iPlayer app will cost less than $10 per month - £6.13 - which equates to around £73 per year.

The annual license fee for UK viewers is £145.50 per year.

'We're exploring internationally what the right pricing and models are ... the most important thing is the consumer pricing is right,' said Mark Thompson, the BBC’s director general, at a conference in London.

He added that the iPad service will launch 'definitely this year', and said it will cost, 'a small number of dollars per month, definitely fewer than 10'.

The BBC has said that the global iPlayer app will not provide all of the BBC's content to overseas subscribers, but the catch-up service is expected to allow those abroad access to full series of shows.

The licence fee gives Britons access to 10 TV channels and 55 radio stations, as well as the Online, Mobile and iPlayer services.

However, the BBC said that the international iPlayer app will help to provide more funding for services for people in the UK, a view was echoed by industry experts.

'There are two ways of looking at this,' Ian Maude, head of internet at Enders Analysis, told the Telegraph.

'One way is that people overseas should pay more for BBC content than those in the UK who are forced to pay the licence fee, whether they like or not, as it is imposed as a flat tax.

The only thing is i have had to go on the 55TL package from ADSL. We should have done this ages ago.http://www.tvcatchup.com/guide.html?hour=06

Hi Alina, Welcome to our forum, yes you are indeed outside the UK as I see you are from India. Could I ask you to go the the Meet and Greet section and tells us a bit about yourself and what brought you to our forum :)

We are all hoping we will still be able to use proxy servers to access UK programmes after the new filter scheme comes into operation on August 22nd.

Well I know one person who will not be subscribing, Digiturk is on it's final warning so the BBC hasn't got a chance.

And another thing! I can't believe how awful the BBC Entertainment channel is, foreigners watching Weakest Link, all the doctor/hospital programmes and Eastenders must wonder what the hell is going on in UK, not to mention Dr Who!!! Give me the National Geographic and History channels anytime instead of all that mindless cr@p.

I agree with you Cukur but I do enjoy 'Have I Got News For You'. Also there are other providers you can access with the proxy.

Jasmine, if you are thinking of subscribing that you have an unlimited computer package from you internet provider because if you watch TV a lot via the computer you may go over your limit and it gets very expensive if you do that.

Can't you get IPlayer with the ExpatPass proxy? It's $7 per month, $70 USD per year. You can check it out at www.expatpass.com. Bushman, a member of the community, runs it. The server is in London, so you should be able to access anything in the UK as if you were in London.

I use ExpatPass and I know some of the moderators do, but I never watch Iplayer.

Yes, you can watch BBC Iplayer on the proxy. I did try to contact Bushman about the filters the T government were threatening to put on the internet but never got a reply. The threat has gone away, as the government changed their minds after so many people protested.

That's good to hear. I need to do a better job of marketing the ExpatPass than I have been. I just spoke with Bushman, he was saying that IPlayer going global will apply to Europe, but not Turkey.

I've found that iPlayer works a dream under the expatpass but ITV and 4OD seem to still "know" you're still in Turkey.

Naturally I blame the Tories....for everything.
