Good offering I reckon, you don't see many films which change genres so dramatically as this one does. The first two thirds of the film amble along violently enough ( pretty graphic this especially when the nutter cuts loose) and there's a buddy element to it too. But then, well I won't spoil it for you but it would help if you've seen the Whicker Man all those years ago.

This is the one that George Clooney won the Golden Globe for. It's set in Hawaii and is essentailly a family drama with Clooney as the father. He plays the role well although I wouldn't describe it as an award winning performance however I would be wrong as it already is. It's a pretty good film but somehow the fact that it has gained so much attention raised my expectations too high. If that makes sense?

Margin Call 2011
Superior drama this revolving around the realisation that a firm's portfolio built upon the sub prime mortgage sh*t is about to fall down around its ears. Doesn't sound riveting but I found it so. Extremely well acted by Kevin Spacey and Jeremy Irons in particular this was a delight.

Irish caper with Brendan Gleeson in an excellent performance as a more than savvy Garda dealing with drug smugglers and an FBI agent. A little gem this one, worked for me on all levels.

Horrible Bosses 2011
Very good comedy with three lads all hating their bosses and conspiring to do away with them with unpredictable results. This one won me over very quickly and kept me onside throughout. Pretty funny I thought!

Having read about this (silent movie etc.) and seen the fact that it is predicted to pick up all kinds of awards I watched it somewhat reluctantly not expecting to like it. Well half and half really, I can certainly see the merit in it and the cleverness of the film but that kind of thing is just not really my cup of tea. The dog was great in it.

Steig Larson's book and this is alteady a remake. I expected the worst, when Hollywood gets its hands on stuff they can make a bit of a mess of it, but here they didn't. Well made and crafted, well acted and very convincing, I really enjoyed this.

This is the first film I've watched for ages that wasn't from 2011. Deep down south the alliance between a deserted black husband (Morgan Freeman) and a damaged, promiscuous white girl makes an interesting movie. Also featuring Justin Timberlake as the gitls absent girlfriend this is well worth a watch and apart from the content the atmosphere hits the ground running from the start.

Despite the fact that I despise this b*tch more than anyone I can think of I was prepared to give this film a chance. I wish I hadn't it's really sh*t. I don't know what the director was trying to do here but whatever it was it didn't work. Half of the film is the b*tch wandering around her house with dementia imagining that the dead Dennis is there. Who gives a f**k! Streep's performance was OK but seriously give this sh*t a miss.

Beginners 2010
Ewan McGregor in this sort of family drama thing where his dad comes out as gay after his mother dies after God knows how many years of marriage. Dad cops for a younger (much) boyfriend and McGregor cops for a French sort. Needless to say there are issues and they are handled really well. A clever smart film and the dog is ace.

One of the movies nominated for best picture this year and after a slightly confusing start this evolves into a very good film. The story revolves a round a young boy who has some kind of autistic spectrum disorder and who loses his father in the 9/11 thing and a search he undertakes because he thinks his father has left him a clue to something in the form of a key. Well played out and very interesting, a big thumbs up here.

Ask Tesadüfleri Sever: Year 1977, a September morning in Ankara... Yilmaz tries to rush his pregnant wife Neriman to the hospital and he crushes into Omer's car. This accident causes Omer's pregnant wife Inci, who was in the back seat, to have a pre-term labor. The babies are born on the same day. They see each other for the first time... This accident is the threshold of the coincidences that bring Ozgur and Deniz together. They come across each other in Ankara several times during their childhood and youth. Each intersection has a butterfly effect, resulting in drastic changes in their lives. They become each other's puppy love or their first heartbreak... But beyond this, each confluence changes their route of life. Not only theirs, but also their families'... They sometimes cause disasters, sometimes miracles. However, they can never be together. Whatever it is that brings them together, manages to build a transparent wall between them. Until they come across each other again in Istanbul, 25 years later...
This is the best film i have ever seen in my life! i have never cried before in a film and i cant stop crying....A must to watch!!

Younger Olsen sibling Elizabeth stars in this unsettling film in which the story revolves around a young girl who surfaces after a couple of years living with cult which resembles what the Manson entourage was probably like. She returns to stay with her sister and husband and increasingly unpredictable and erratic behaviour ensues inevitably putting a strain on her sister's relationship both with her and her husband. I really enjoyed this and thought that Olsen in the main role was very good indeed. Worth a look.

Catfish 2010
Supposed documentary although many commentators have cast doubt on the authenticity of this. I wasn't sure but it certainly made for interesting viewing. A young film maker/artist begins to receive communications from a family he knows nothing of and the story develops from there. It has a degree of authenticity and is cleverly made whether genuine or not. Certainly worth a look.

The Arbor 2010
Telling the story in a documentary fashion of Andrea Dunbar the Bradford housing estate playwright who wrote Rita, Sue and Bob Too and died at the age of 29. She wrote well about the despair and people in her life but didn't rise above it and boozed her way to an early grave leaving 4 children by different fathers who largely tell the story. It doesn't stop there the eldest daughter of mixed race also descended into a life of drug addiction and despair culminating in the death of her own 2 year old child for which she was convicted of manslaughter. The story is told by actors mouthing the words of the real protaganists interspersed with real documentary footage of Andrea herself shot in the 80s. Grim lives indeed.

Watched this a couple of nights ago, I thought it an overly romanticised story with not much credible action but ok if you have nothing better to do. It has a happy ending. 5/10
