Since the end of 2010 there has been a new payment system for the buses, minibuses and trams in Antalya. At present you can still pay cash on the buses and minibuses, but the fare is 1.75TL if you haven't got the smart card, which you get for 8TL (plus completion of a form) from any tram stop or the halk kart office in Lara. The Halk kart gives you the price of 1.50TL (for all trips inside the city) on the minibuses and 1.40TL on the buses, not sure about the trams, payment is through the machine as you get on the minibus. You can put money in your card at a tram stop or selected shops or online using a credit card. People with newer type mobile phones can convert their card to phone use, you pay by waving your phone at the machine.

It is all in Turkish at present.
An interesting recent development has been the introduction of five bus routes run by the municipality, all numbered two hundred and something. Of particular interest to visitors are two routes, the 202 and 206a.
The 202 goes from the otogar to the airport via the city centre.
The 206a goes from the otogar via the centre and past the waterfall that crashes into the sea as far as Lara beach and the big hotels in Kundu.

To my knowledge this is the first time since we arrived 6 years ago that comprehensive information about public transport in Antalya has been available on the internet.

There have been a number of changes in the public transport system in Antalya recently.

The fare for passengers without the halkkart was increased to 2.50TL. The standard fare with the card is 1.70TL. Pensioners get 1.30TL and students 0.95.

This is only the start of further changes. Signs on the bus say that paying by cash will stop on 12 August (already postponed once from the end of July). That will mean everyone will have to have a card, or a ticket card purchased from the tram booths or from small shops near bus stops. From 20 August the municipality also plan to introduce night buses and transfers, whereby passengers will only need to pay one fare for a journey even if it takes two buses within a certain time limit. I think such a system already operates in Ankara.

It remains to be seen whether the municipality can make these changes stick. Stay posted.

Since August there have been almost constant changes to public transport system in Antalya.

There is a website https://cc.a-kent.com/Default.aspx (only in Turkish at present) which has lots of information. To access some of the information you need to become a member.

At present if you want to go by bus in Antalya the situation is as follows.

The standard fare is 1.70TL. At the moment you can pay cash, but that may change at any time. A few weeks ago you could only travel with a prepaid plastic card.
It is better to get the prepaid plastic card than pay cash because the card allows you to transfer to another route to complete your journey for no extra charge.

There are lots of ways you can put money onto your card- at a shop (listed on the website) or at a tram stop and even through denizbank atms.

All the routes were changed on August 20th, and it will take time for people to learn the new routes, and that includes the drivers.

All the routes are on the website, of course. You can also find out about routes by phoning 4443708, but I think you will have to speak Turkish, not sure though, I didn't try to speak English to them.

The change in routes was massive, everything has changed. There are now half as many routes as there were before, and most journeys take longer, at least most journeys I want to make, because there are fewer buses around, and you need to change for a lot of journeys. The reason there are fewer buses is because they now only have big buses doing the busiest routes along the major roads, and the minibuses now do local journeys down the smaller streets. Before the change there were so many minibuses going to so many different places along so many different main roads there were lots of options. The system is now based more or less on the tram line, which runs north to south from the otogar through the centre. There are no longer any buses going from the centre to the otogar. Consequently the trams are now full, whereas they were empty before the changes.

One interesting feature of the new system is that you can find where the buses are on any route you want to travel on, so you can time your arrival at the stop to reduce waiting- click on otobüsüm nerede, once you have joined.

There is a lot more to say about traveling by public transport in Antalya, but I think this is enough for here, I'll start another thread for other info. I hope what I have written is clear enough, unfortunately it is not possible to describe it more briefly because it is so complex.

We have the same card in Izmir too, Kent Card its called here though. They are great but in İzmir there arent enough places to put the money on the card which can be a pain at times. xxx

A few more points I think I forgot to mention.

You can put money on your card online using a credit card.

Some short local routes are a bit cheaper (1.50TL).

Be warned that if you get your hands on one of the bus maps that were distributed when the new system was introduced (I think a load were given to hotels as I have seen tourists wandering around with them), they are of use but are not fully accurate because some routes have been altered and new ones introduced.

The only way to get fully accurate and up to date info is by phoning the number I gave in my previous message. If you are not local that may be a bit tricky as you will need to tell them where you are, and the superbrains who designed the system did put any reference numbers or other means of identification on the stops!

Another interesting feature of the online system is that it shows you which buses you have used and when you used them. That means I can see what my daughters have been up to, sneaky eh.

So many exciting things to do online these days, I hardly need to go out. Watching the buses move around the city. Checking up on my daughters. And if that is not enough I can watch the İstanbul traffic (http://tkm.ibb.gov.t...ukHaritasi.aspx). The traffic on the new Bosphorous Bridge is moving at 42kph at this moment.

You can still pay cash to the driver, and it does not cost more than the card price, but it will be going up to 2,50TL soon, according to the belediye website.

Night buses were introduced, but the number has been cut for the winter now.

I am visiting Antalya en route to Uk next month.
I notice that bus routes may have changed since my last visit.
I have tried using maps including the one posted above but a straightforward plea may be more useful.

From inside/outside, otogar is there a direct bus route to Lara Resort? I think the previous number was 94 and it stopped outside Club Sera Hotel.
Any help will be accepted gratefully.

Is that the Barut lara hotel address Guzeloba Mah. Tesisler Cad. No :170 Kundu? The bus map doesn't go out that far, but some buses do.
As far as I know there isn't a direct bus at the moment, but take the tram to Doğu Garajı and then get a 703 (described as an 'ekspres' bus and not on the map for some reason) bus from in front of the TÖMER language school (you might find the Arşimet Dersanesi sign next door easier to see when you get off the tram). The 703 is supposed to run every 20 minutes.

The 703 bus goes all the way along the Lara Turizm Yolu, so you'll be all right on that one.

They seem to have plans for a bus all the way from the otogar to the Turizm Yolu, the O91, but it hasn't started yet.

Sorry about this I have just found out that the number 94 that you took before is running, even though the internet system does not show it as running. You can get it all the way from the otogar to the hotel.

I am very sorry for misinforming you before, I hope you get this message.

PS there is a number for telephone enquiries, 0242 444 3708, I had tried to call it earlier but the calls kept failing. Sometimes it is very difficult to find simple information, isn't it!

Bus 94 leaves Otogar at 25 minutes past hour.

An alternative is tram into town and the KL08.

2. If i will take a taxi from the airport to Real Market can somebody tell me how much will it cost?

Take bus number 600 from the airport. After going through Meydan Kavşağı (Junction) the bus goes along Mevlana Caddesi towards Mevlana Junction. Get off at one of the stops in Mevlana Caddesi, the stop just before the BP petrol station is probably best. Then take a number 37 minibus up to Real. Real is only about 1 kilometre from Mevlana Junction.

The taxi for the journey should cost 30-40TL, sorry I can't be more exact.

The 206a does not go to Kundu. I live in Kundu and use the buses every week. The 38 dolmus takes you into the centre of town and the 703 takes you there too via Gulluk Cad. which takes a bit longer than the 38.

The advantage of the new system is that, as long as you connect to your second bus,dolmus or tram within 45 minutes, you don't have to pay a second time round as long as you use your card.
