Hi Clive, I can't help you as I don't live in that area but just wanted to welcome you to our forum. We do have members that will be able to help and should be along later to help you. :)

It should be OK unless it is actually snowing or has snowed recently. It is a major route so it should be cleared quite quickly. The highest points are very high, though, over 1000 metres with steep precipices next to the road, so I don't think it would be a good idea to get caught up there without chains in bad weather. The route along the coast is very picturesque, if you haven't already gone that way.

It's not as bad as you might think and certainly not as bad as it is in the UK when there's a bit of snow. I've driven over the mountains several times in the winter and haven't had any problems.

Give yourself plenty of time as there's a huge amount of construction work being done on the D400 and there may well be diversions in operation as they're widening and straightening it.

If you're going to take the coast road, make the most of it and do it over 2 days. There's a lot of scenery that's well worth seeing and you should stop-off in Kas or Kalkan for a break.

Hi Clive, welcome to the forum,

I have just returned from Fethiye via coach to Antalya - there has been snow but it has not been a problem on the roads as yet. The mountains are covered in places and the journey through and views are amazing. As you are travelling in early Feb it would be good to get weather conditions in the area at the time of travel, use the internet, it's usually reliable.
I agree with KKW the coast route it fab but takes a lot longer, so a stop over in Kas would be a good idea and who knows you may just fall in love with Kas as most people do.

Safe journey and welcome to the forum.

we used this road when visiting Fil once & there were terrible hail stones & rain..there were two accidents that we saw but i think this was probbaly due to the road having been hot from sun then wet from rain....i agree the route was stunning & i liked it in different ways to the sea side route but as usual some terrible turkish drivers spoilt the drive in many ways..same old same old...i cant think of anything specific about the roads to consider just as above re. weather conditions.
i had some shots of rainbows at the high spots but i cant find them...breathtaking they were.
