Hi all

I am trying really hard to learn Turkish as quickly as possible and listening to music in the language i am learning is normally a great way to speed up my learning. So i was wondering if you could tell me your favourite 2 songs in turkish so i can stick em on my i pod and get learning :confused1[1]:

Good idea Rebecca.

Barış Manço, domates biber patlıcan- good for shopping.

Nilüfer's album 70'den 70'e has a lot of catchy songs with common phrases like 'kim arar söyle kim arar' and 'dünya dönüyor'.

Livaneli has very good diction, you can hear every word clearly, I learned a lot from his album ada, like 'dünyayı güzellik kurtaracak, bir insanı sevmekle başlayacak her şey'.

Yeni Türkü's yeşilmişik is my favourite, bak iste yaklaşıyor fırtına helps with daily weather conversations, and every song is a winner on the album.

Merhaba Rebecca, welcome :birgits_coffee[1]:

What all are you doing to learn the language? First off, make sure to check out the articles here by TC's Saffron and Abi as they are very informative about learning Turkish.

Listening to songs in Turkish is helpful but its only a small portion of things you can do. And honestly, unless you are taking classes for formal language training, its going to be a long and slow process, unless you just want to know enough to get by on a visit. I am also learning but mostly doing self study with help from my Türk boyfriend and from Saffron here. Ive been doing it for almost a year now and I still am not fluent, with alot to learn and remember still.

You also have to learn Turkish grammar so you understand why words are and phrases are spoken and written like they are. I can also recommend a few sites including Turkey Central where you can get a break down of different parts of the grammar.
Manisa Turkish Online- For Grammar
Live Mocha -Free and gives speaking and writing practice and offers a chat feature with native speakers also learning languages
LearnTurkish Channel-YouTube-Grammar and Turkish songs with lyrics.

Also, it helps if you have a speaking partner to practice with, even if its just someone who is also learning the language if you don't know any native Türkçe speakers. Also if you can find a way on the internet, watch Turkish TV occasionally especially the news, as it will help you hear how to pronunciate words, phrases and letters of the Turkish alphabet. That said, İd be happy to study with you if you ever wanted. :)

I'm not a fan of Ibrahim Tatlisiz! (misspelling intended) :D

And the click click click of eating cekerdek drives me nuts. (more than usual) :D

Sunny I have to agree I think Ibrahim Tatlises is very very depressing and understand why many people have taken to self harming when listening to his music and the sound of people eating cekerdek also drives me up the wall. I am from a household where we were given the evil glare if we even rattled a crisp packet never mind click click click of the seeds haha.

I am a massive fan of Tarkan and I have found many of his songs are easy to follow and translate. Also candan Erçetin is very good and sings about everything not just romance. xxx

Oh I have heard one song from Candan Erçetin "Git" They run the video lots on the music station Power Turk. İts a catchy song and I sometimes find myself singing along with it actually. I will take a listen to some other songs by her though Samantha :)

And like a few Tarkan songs as well, Öp, Kayıp, and Istanbul Ağlıyor... :winner_first_h4h[1]:
