Day 14. Weds.

Posted by lozengelegend, 18 November 2007 - - - - - - · 285 views

This morning was another near-miss as far as breakfast goes. We just about managed to wake up, shared the one remaining bowl of rice pudding, drank some water and went back to bed. I’ve been very tired all day though – fasting is very wearing, on the spirit as much as the body. But it feels good to achieve something, a bit like running a race. Just...

Day 13. Tues.

Posted by lozengelegend, 18 November 2007 - - - - - - · 130 views

Weighed myself this morning and I have finally changed weight! 53 instead of 54 kilos. I’m not sure this is anything momentous or fasting-related though: I’m not a weight watcher but I’m sure my weight must fluctuate by a kilo on a normal month. I do feel thinner, but my clothes seem to fit me much as they always do! Hakan on the other hand is...

Day 12. Mon.

Posted by lozengelegend, 18 November 2007 - - - - - - · 136 views

Woke up relatively bright and early this morning after a very brief breakfast.

We ate dinner on one of the big boats again and everyone showed far more self-control this time. Hakan made karalahana soup again, and salad and more squid, in a light sauce with vegetables.

Day 11. Sun.

I slept in full-length PJs and wrapped up in several blankets last night, causing Hakan to ask what I’m planning to do when winter comes. The headache’s cleared leaving muscle cramp in my neck and shoulder instead, so perhaps the culprit was the wind out at sea last night, and not the fasting at all.

Of course I can’t take any more painkillers as it’s...

Day 10. Sat.

Posted by lozengelegend, 18 November 2007 - - - - - - · 139 views

Today’s my day off and there’s nothing in the diary for this morning so – having got up and eaten at 4am of course – I get up again a few hours later without waking Hakan so I can do some housework without him getting bored! As always after a couple of hours of cleaning, I’m dying for something to drink and a biscuit but no such luck today. While I’m...

Day 9. Fri.

Posted by lozengelegend, 18 November 2007 - - - - - - · 92 views

Tonight we’ve arranged to meet up with my friend Jan. She’s got to pop home after work to pick up her dog, who is a nervous sort with a habit of snapping at men. Jan can’t get here until after we can start eating but is au fait with the details of Ramazan so isn’t fazed when I explain we might have to start eating without her!

Jan and Lady turn up...

Day 8. Thurs.

Posted by lozengelegend, 18 November 2007 - - - - - - · 98 views

Well it seems being rehydrated hasn’t fixed my brain. I forgot to set the alarm this morning for breakfast and by the time we woke up (about 6am), the sun had risen and it was too late to eat or drink anything… Where was the drummer? That’s what I want to know! Luckily for me, my new drink tides me over until the evening and I actually feel better than...

Day 7. Weds.

Posted by lozengelegend, 18 November 2007 - - - - - - · 107 views

I’ve found the solution…rehydration solution! I fairly sailed through today having switched 80% of my nightly water intake to this sugar/salt mixture, though I’m looking forward to having some more in 42 minutes’ time… The same can’t be said for Hakan though, whose anxiety grows visibly the closer it gets to dinner time. I try to persuade him to drink...

Day 6

Posted by lozengelegend, 18 November 2007 - - - - - - · 108 views

This morning my skin and even my hair seem dry! I realize I forgot to take my vitamin tablet at breakfast and sneak it with half a mouthful of water before leaving the house. At first the stolen sip feels great but walking down to the harbour in the hot sun, I start to feel distinctly poorly. It’s so early in the day and I’m already feeling bad: joints...

Day 5.

Posted by lozengelegend, 18 November 2007 - - - - - - · 106 views

Lots of people fell off the wagon today. One of the waiters at the restaurant – the one who thought I ought to pray as well as fast – appeared at around 5pm with cigarette in hand and at 6pm sat down with a bowl of soup! I was already feeling very much inclined to stop fasting myself and seeing someone else stop only makes it all the more tempting. I...
