Kaleici, translated "fortress interior," is a labyrinth-like neighborhood of narrow streets, shops, bars, and pensions. This is the "old quarter" of Antalya, full of carefully and tastefully restored ottoman buildings. Here, colorful foliage and decorative wrought iron accentuates stone and brick, as do enclosed balconies which overlook the narrow alleyways. It is for the most part pedestrianized, so the only cars you'll see belong to those who work in Kaleici or who are staying at a hotel or pension there.

Kaleici is the best place to stay while in town. If you have a car, you can get information on how to get your car registered, and allowed into KaliIci from your hotel or pension. Hotels and pensions in Kaleici can be surprisingly affordable, especially in the off season.
